Legal Question in Immigration Law in Texas
Hi, am thinking of doing an affidavit of support for my brother who is applying for his permanent residency, he came here on a fiance visa, recently got married and had a child. If he decides to get government assistance/ aid for his child or U. S citizen step children how will that affect me?

Assistance obtained by a U.S. citizen spouse or child is not imputed to the foreign immigrant. It will only affect you, as the joint sponsor, if the sponsored immigrant himself applies for a means-tested benefit (one in which eligibility for the benefit is derived from ones income).
