if car you were driving was in someone elses name who would be responsible for insurance

Both parties..but normally insurance for the car pays and it may make a claim against insurance for a premitted driver..but that rarely happens..However if damages to others are severe and car insurance is not adequate, then car insurance for driver normally has to pay also..
