Legal Question in Insurance Law in Texas

I file a homeowners claim because my home was vandlized and property stolen. I filed out the request claim papers & a police report. Now the insurance company wants me to drive 200 miles to their home office and give a statement (Alfidavit) with a court reporter present. Am I required to do this since it's not in my policy about having to do anything like this, nor was it brought up until now when I'm just trying to get this thing over with. Am I required to do this & is it in my best interest? I looked the company up online & according the the Dept. of Ins. they have 2.5x more complanits then any other insurance company.

Be sure to put your position/objections in writing..and demand any statement be given locally or a reasonable distance from your home. All policies permit insurers to take such statements under oath...and if not given, they will not pay. If the loss was substantial, contact a local lawyer.
