Legal Question in Insurance Law in Texas
A few months ago when I was 17 I took my dad's car WITHOUT permission and crashed into a woman called Sherry. My dad's car is insured but I was not in the insurance since I didn't even have a license. Now I'm 18. Me and my dad are being sued by the lady's insurance company(State Farm) for about $12,000(the amount it took to fix her car). Sherry has gone to my house 3 times, and 2 of the times she handed us the same packet of papers saying "YOU HAVE BEEN SUED". We have NOT received anything through the mail and the only information we have obtained was from the Sherrry. Is it legal for Sherry to come to my property handing me legal papers I could have easily received through the mail? Is my dad's insurance suppose to pay Sherry for the damages since the car that I was driving was insured? Is it possible to not hold my dad responsible since I'm already 18?
Thanks and I look forward to your answer
