Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Texas

Copyright release

What legal form do I use to give permission to someone to use only some of my intellectual property. eg. I would like to give someone permission to use some curriculum that I have written, but maintain my full rights. This curriculum was written in Texas, but I want to give someone in New York permission to use it. It is important to me that I have a legal document that states exactly what I am releasing with permission. Does this form need to be notarized. (I'm sure it does, but thought I would ask anyway.)

Re: Copyright release

The document is called a license, and it spells out what you are licensing, to whom you are licensing, the purpose of the license, for how long, what your royalties are for the use, and what you are retaining in the licensed product.

This is not something you'd want to do yourself.

Most intellectual property lawyers are in law firms that also handle patents. Look up patent attorneys in the Yellow Pages, but under Patents rather than Attorneys.

Your material is protected by copyright. As such , you are able to license it to others for a fee. I could assist you if you wish to have the document prepared. It can create problems if not done properly.
