Reprint rights for artwork

If I buy a piece of artwork, such as an original oil painting, do I also receive rights to reprint that work.

For instance, I bought an original piece of art from John Doe and now I want to make prints of that artwork to resell.

You also need to get the copyright as well, since that is a right separate from the physical item. Only the artist presently has the right to make copies of his artwork.
