Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

Current Employer prevent exit to new Employer

Can my current employer prevent me from joining a new firm that is a current customer of my existing company - my contact with the customer was 2 years ago and the only communication I have had with the customer was via the telephone. I have never been onsite at this customer's site and I have never performed any work in the customer's offices.

Re: Current Employer prevent exit to new Employer

This question has more complexities than this brief response permits, depending on a number of factors. In general, if you do not have a signed and valid non-competition agreement, it is unlikely that your current employer could prevent you from working for one of its customers. One exception could be, however, if you had confidential information from your current employer that could harm it or benefit the customer at the employer's expense. This would not necessarily prevent you from moving to the customer, but it and other issues could complicate matters.
