Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas
I drive a public transportation bus, working mostly with Medicaid. Today I was asked to take a young lady to an abortion clinic at 7:00 am. I was sure I knew why. Everyone I work with knows I am a Christian, and my faith has never been a problem in my work. But with good conscience, I could not take part in what would take place when she arrived. I called my supervisior and was told take her or loose your job. I was told I could not ask any questions if I did pick her up. In good conscience, I finished what other trip I had, and parked the bus. I have no problem with people disagreeing with me, and I know this is one of the hotest questions around, but why should I loose my job over something like this when, anyone could have taken her? I checked with Texas work force and I was told something about "Employee at will" the right to fire for any reason. After sixty-two years of work, this will be the first time I have ever been fired from a job. Boy has this world changed. Thanks for any help.

Generally Texas employment is "at will". Meaning that you can be fired for any reason or no reason at all (so long as the reason isn't an illegal reason).
It would be illegal to fire an employee because of their religion. The problem is that you will probably have a hard time connecting your refusal to do as told to your right to practice your religion.
It's unfortunate that you and your supervisor could not find an informal solution to this problem.
