Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas
I am currently employed in Texas, an at will state. My employer required me to sign an offer letter stating that if I choose to terminate my employment within a 2 year period, I will owe a certain amount of money (even though there was no signing bonus or anything received on my part). The letter also reiterates that my employment is at will and that they are able to terminate my employment without cause at any time. An HR representative with the company has said repeatedly that it's not a contract, so I would like know if a company has the right to restrict an employee from terminating employment through financial obligation in an at will state.

Don't sign the letter. Tell them simply that you don't agree to its terms.
It's not a contract? Whoever told you that is a liar.
