Employers do have the right in Texas to impose duties that are part of necessary job functions. If the employee has a disability that prevents him/her from performing such duties (such as a medical condition that causes severe pain when standing for extended periods), then the employer must make a reasonable accommodation to allow the employee to continue to perform essential job functions in spite of the disability.
