Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

I feel that I was unlawfully terminated from my job of 18 years service. After an company audit was done, 4 emlpoyees were terminated for stealing monies from the comapny. All 4 employees admitted to stealing the money and agreed to pay it back. The aditors cleaned me from any wrong doing. As the manager I was later called in the office and was terminated by my district manager for what they say failure to protect companys assets. I was not the one stealing from the company. I feel that I was unlawfully terminated. Do I have a case?

The general rule in Texas is: You can be fired for any reason, or for no reason at all. The exception is if you have a written contract of employment, or if there is a company rulebook that spells out your rights, and the company violated their own rules.

A company can't sue you for walking off the job (even if it causes them inconvenience, and costs them money). And you can't sue them for wrongful termination, except in certain carefully-defined circumstances, for instance, those that involve age discrimination, or discrimination based on race, religion, or national origin.

And when you claim to be (for instance) a victim of discrimination (let's say your'e the only Jew at the factory), you can bet your life that the company will suddenly come up with documents showing that you were late for work, that you were a poor employee, etc.
