Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas
One of my friends went through all the interviews in a company in Wall Street and the recruiter from the company phoned to him (Feb. 1) and said the company was there to offer him a job (just an oral offer) He asked what he expected salary. My friend was so happy, he followed the instruction to submit his information for the background check and stop the process of job hunting and defer other interview invitation.
He is a F-1 visa holder and now change to OPT for the job.
But last week thursday (Feb 14), the recruiter emailed him to ask for a talk on Monday (Feb 18). And on Feb 18, the recruiter say the company now cannot offer him a job as they found there is enough stuff to do all the current project.
So my friend is extremely shocked and dont know what to do at all. He has prepared to head to New York and even sold his car. His family member also bought air-ticket to New York.
Do you think there is sth wrong with the company doing? What they did is so irresponsible and unprofessional.

sad. but no legal remedy IMHO....lesson in life..never stop looking nor working if u have a job on a "promise" of an interview..or even employment..However, IF he had a contract with employer for a salary and length of employment one could sue on contract...but in this scenario..only an interview...
