Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

Gender-based wage cut

I work(ed) as a bar manager in a restaurant for $8/hr plus tips. Without explanation, my hourly rate was cut to $5.15 per hour. However, two bar staff (male) that I hired, were kept at their $7/hr rate. I spoke with the manager and he offered no explanation. I cannot support myself and two children on that wage, therefore, had to quit to find suitable employment. I've had no disciplinary actions and for the first time at the restaurant, bar sales showed a profit under my management. The two male bar employees are still there at their same salaries and they had to hire two bartenders to replace my duties. This seems to me to be a plain case of discrimination because I am female. Do I have any options available to me under labor laws? I sincerely appreciate any advice you may be able to offer. Thank you very much.

Re: Gender-based wage cut

You might choose to file a charge with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission or the Texas Commission on Human Rights. There are time limitations on doing so, so you should do so quickly. Contact information is available at their websites or in the phone book. Best wishes.
