Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas
My husband is an electrician employed with a company in Arlington, TX. All employees were required to go to the main shop an hour earlier (6 a.m.) than their normal clock-in time (7 a.m.) for a tool check. They were then required to drive themselves from the shop to their respective jobsites for normal work. Because they went in at 6 a.m., they were allowed to leave at 3 p.m. because that would constitute and 8-hour work day. However, today they were told that they would not be compensated for the time it took them to drive from the shop to the jobsite. Therefore, they will only be getting paid 7.5 hours instead of 8. Is this legal?

May I offer a suggestion? The unemployment rate right now is almost 10%. Every night, your husband should thank God that he has a job at all.
Forget about the drive time.
