Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

Illegal activities by employer?

Hi,

I work in a warehouse for a local furniture store. There are several activities that seem illegal. Frequently, the owner will ask for one, or more employees to work for him personally, while on the clock for the business. For example, he recently build a new house for his parents in law, and some of us had to help working on the house. Also, the owner is building an extension to the store and many of us have to help out.

Also, what is the maximum number of hours an employer can ask you to work in a 24 hour period (in Texas)?

Thank you!

Re: Illegal activities by employer?

This is potentially unlawful, depending on such factors as whether store is paying for your time on these private activities, etc. There is no maximum limit on work hours in any given day for adults in most occupations.
