Labor law and age

A department head is asked to resign and the reason given is because he is too old. Although he did not resign and was not terminated, yet, is there any legal recourse? Is it legal to make people feel like their jobs are being threatened because thay are older than others?

In most occupations, it is unlawful to terminate anyone based on age. It is also unlawful to threaten to do so.
