Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas
I am an LPC working for a small non-profit organization. We have no PTO only basic medical insurance for benefits. I work full-time. I asked for two days off after Christmas that were approved on 9/27/12. I was brought into the office on 10/6/12 and verbally informed that any missed groups I was facilitating had to be made up as well as covered by someone in the organization or I would have to pay the contractor after the company paid me. None of this is in the P&P or employee handbook nor have I signed anything agreeing to this. So if makeup groups are conducted they still get paid while the burden of finding coverage for time off that I am not getting paid for is forced on me making it really hard to enjoy taking time off, because you are worried about getting coverage? Is this legal? Can they do this?

IMHO..yes...no union/no rights..unless you have a contract. Company handbooks are not normally enforceable rights for workers...only guides for the company and showing workers the company cares..so good luck. All Texas politics are anti union/anti worker...
