Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

mandatory meetings without compensation

Labor Law Question:

Is it legal for an employer to require a mandatory meeting without compensation for an hourly employee? I am an adjunct professor at a private university and they often require attendance to long workshops without any compensation. They state you will be fired if you don't attend even if the meeting conflicts with prior obligations to work elsewhere. Thanks so much
