Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

Non-Compete Agreement after being laid off

I signed a non-compete agreement with a previous employer in the durable medical equipment field stating I could not go to work for a comptetitor for 2 years if I was to leave. After 7 months of employment I was laid off by the employer. In order to get my severence pay I signed a document which, among other things, reiterated the non-compete agreement. What can happen if I go to work for a competitor being this IS my career? Thank you for your time.

Re: Non-Compete Agreement after being laid off

You may be able to challenge the non-compete if necessary, depending on a variety of legal issues. The fact that you reiterated it at the time of your departure may make your position more difficult. You should have an experienced employment lawyer review the non-compete and surrounding circumstances.
