Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

I am a part time/paid on call firefighter/EMT in Texas. Currently we get paid a salary of about 350ish dollars every two weeks. We are required to work 7 24 hour shifts a month, but since we are short handed we work all 10 24 hours shifts a month but get paid no more than the 350 every two weeks salary. I have asked around but been told all we are is compensated volunteers and thats how its always been but I dont think thats right and nobody will speak up about it because they are scared to loose their job. So as a part time/on call firefighter can they work you 240 hours a month and still not give you benefits and only pay you around 3 dollars an hour?

Probably...most volunteers are not paid at all..other than expenses...but without a lot of research

I would be hesitant to recommend legal action...remember who controls our legislature and judiciary in Texas which make laws....but call you local State Rep or Senator for their position..
