Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas
The two partners in my department are leaving to start their own firm. We (the staff in our department) have known for about 5 months that this was in the works. Now, it is officially known throughout the entire firm. I am aware that the partners in the other department will make offers or have discussions with those of us who wish to stay. After all, I remain an employee of the firm. My question is, are the partners who are leaving required to give me a written offer of employment? To date, they have not given most of the standard details I would expect when beginning a new job. I only know that my salary will remain the same, but we have not been given any details on benefits. I feel as though these guys assume we will all follow blindly and find out details when they "figure everything out." I know that I have a choice to stay or go, but I am mostly curious if the departing partners have an obligation to make written offers, or if implications of our jobs are sufficient.

Unless you have a written contract of employment that says otherwise, the departing partners have no obligation to you.
