Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

Salary Reduction and Unpaid Mandatory Staff Meetings

I am the general manager for a bar and grill.

The owner reduced my salary because he said he couldn't afford to pay my current salary. He began the meeting by telling me I am his right arm and that he couldn't run the business without me. He did not reduce the salaries of the other two salaried employees because he said one's entire salary goes to child support and the other didn't make that much anyway.

Both of these employees have multiple writeups for failure to perform their jobs.

Is it legal to arbitrarily reduce one employees salary anand not others? Is it legal to reduce salary and increase responsiblity for an employee who does their job?

The owner also has mandatory staff meetings and refuses to pay hourly employees. He thinks because he buys them a meal during the meeting he does not have to pay them for their time. It this legal

Re: Salary Reduction and Unpaid Mandatory Staff Meetings

It is permissible to reduce any employee's salary unless covered by a collective bargaining agreement or contract unless it is done for discriminatory purposes. It is not legal not to pay the staff for mandatory meetings.
