Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

Slander

My bestfriend and I were both laid off after 6 years of employment because the company ''slowed'' down. However, they hired replacements for both of our positions within a week. We both felt as though there was something more to it than the reason given to us. A few weeks after the lay-off several individuals in higher positions began calling and asking us about things that we were acussed of doing that caused us to have gotten fired. The things that were told to us were false and we still can not figure out why they would have even been discussing our situations with anyone else that had absolutely nothing to do with our positions. I have spoken to atleast 4 individuals whom all called me and it was the exact same story I was questioned about. I still have several family members, and collegues who are not at all involved in any way to those who have notified me about these accusations, and I want to know what constitutes as slander, and of course there are so many more details. If anyone has a moment to discuss with me my situation, I am open and willing to all legal advice.

Re: Slander

Slander is oral statements causing harm to a person..and can be deliberate or negligentl done..and if written it becomes libel...but a lawsuit must be filed within one year ...so you have been damaged and may have a case..Contact a local personal injury in your area as a lawsuit would have to be filed there...we would consider it but not on a total contingency..ie..a retainer to cover costs and normally the defaming party could have the damage paid by homeowner insurance...and if false, the company may have liability for spreading the falsehood....
