The question is what they would do to "make" you pay.

If they ask for the money, you can simply tell them that it was stolen, and not by you; that you will cooperate with the police in their investigation; but that it's not your fault it was stolen, and you will NOT pay for it.

At that point, they may fire you. And since Texas is an "employment at will" state, they will get away with firing you.
