Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas
Two weeks ago, I submitted my resignation to be effective this week. Now am told they have put a "hold" on my resignation and, instead, are keeping me on the payroll (paid administrative leave). The reason? They are investigating a colleague and if they keep me on the payroll, then they can force me to come in for questioning (about whatever the colleague has done) since I'm still employed there. Is that legal? I am in TX and have been told that employment here is "at will" and can be terminated at any time by either the employer or the employee. If it is not legal, then what happens if I re-submit my resignation? Will they have to accept it? I am worried about possible repercussions (e.g. what they will tell prospective new employers) but I also do not want to remain in this limbo. PS -- I was told I am NOT under investigation but that I was pointed out (by an unnamed person) as possibly having knowledge of whatever the colleague has supposedly done (that "something" has not been spelled out to me, though).

Nobody has the right to force you to "come in for questioning" or do anything else just because you're employed.
"Under investigation"? Tell these people to go straight to hell.
