Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

I work as a contractor for a "cash for gold" company in a different state. Recently my house was broken into, and the cash I had at my home that belongs to the company was stolen. I called the police who investigated and provided me a police report the next day which I forwarded to my company. I did not hear anything back for over 6 weeks after providing the police report as requested. I then heard from my supervisor that the company owner wants me to pay back all the money or, if I don't, he will call the police and accuse me of embezzlement. I feel confident that the accusation would not go far, but I do not know if I am personally liable to pay back the money that was stolen. Can you help?
