Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas
Work related
My daughter works for a dance studio as a salaried employee. As such, she's supposed to work a 40 hour week. But the studio seldom schedules her for 40 hours and then requires her to make up missing hours later. When she asks HR how many hours she has left to make up, the answer is always ''50''. On top of that, she studio only counts the hours she is actually teaching in studio as work hours, although the schedule is such that she may end up with gaps in the studio hours which means she may have to stay on site twelve hours, but only get eight hours of work credit. Is this legal? She has worked three 12 hour days in a row and is scheduled for four hours plus an eight hour overnight camp this weekend. It seems like they are skating around the issue of fair compensation and scheduling. She's scared to complain because of fear of retaliation and job loss, but she's exhausted and the nature of her job is very active. She's got to have some down time or she could end up injured.

Re: Work related
Hopefully the dance studio has insurance or money..but 40 hours a week is the law..not 24 one week and 56 the next....if she is over 18, we would talk to her..as firing for complaining makes the employer liable..again..does the employer have money or just a mom and pop
