Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

Working as a Consultant

My husband and I retired from the Catholic Diocese of Galveston Houston last year. Now, we have been asked to work (as consultants) for another Church within the Diocese. What steps do we need to take to do this? Do we need to set up a business? Should we be paid directly or through this business? What is our liability? How could this affect our retirement with the Diocese? (We are not supposed to work more than 19hrs / Wk for the Diocese)

What does your contract/retirment package say?? as a Catholic I find it inconceivable for the Church to limit the amount of work one can do to keep and spread the faith, to help others..so I'd be happy to review your contract..etc..but have you talked to the Cardinal?..I know Archbishop Fiorenza...and am sure you do also..ask him...

Re: Working as a Consultant

Based on what you have stated, you should review the terms of your retirement package to ensure that there is not something that prevents you or your husband for working again for the Diocese. As I am a Catholic in the Katy area, I would be more than happy to review the retirement package and advise you about the terms. Assuming there is nothing barring you or your husband for working, it appears that you might want to set up a business. If my law firm can assist you with this legal issue or any other legal matter, please contact my legal assistant Jennifer ([email protected]).
