Apartment issues

my cable was shocked in my apartment by an electrical issue i was having in my apartment. i was told it was very dangerous and so i called the apartment office to let them know and i was told it wasnt their problem. so i told the cable person whom was in my apt. he said he would show them it was shocking him in every outlet. so i went down to the office and the person in the office wouldnt open the door. i was knocking for awhile and then she turned her back on us, so the whole nite no one came to check on it . i even called the 24hr maintence .but nothing. so the next day the cable guy came back out to show them but no one returned our call for about an hr till they came out. and the maintenece person didnt know what was going on so he called an electic company and they came and it turned out to be a big problem. one the wires in wall was burning. i was told it was really serious .electric guy was here almost 8hrs..fixing and once he was called he was out here with in 30mins, something could of happened and i have 4kids. so im really upset that they didnt want to listen to me.

No question you had a terrible situation.

Am not sure there is much you can do.

Despite the outrageous conduct of the apartment management, because of your perseverence, it appears you suffered no economic loss or physical injury. Punitive damages and emotional distress are compensable when there is a viable cause of action.

Certainly, you can document the incident as a breach of the lease, rendering further habitation in such circumstances as dangerous. In that case, under the terms of your lease (as well as the law) you can give notice and move out without breaching the lease.

If you did have economic loss or physical injury as a result of this conduct, consult an attorney in your area that handles civil litigation. They may be willing to take the case on a contingency.
