my apartment is being renovated. my landlord is telling me i have to find somewhere to stay for a whole month. shouldn't they have to be the once to place me somewhere?

If you have a lease that you're current on, you have the right to occupy the premises, and you don't have to leave. Tell your landlord I said so.
If he wants you to be somewhere else for a month, you should talk to the local hotels, get a price for staying there 30 days, and tell your landlord that if he wants you to live somewhere else for a month, he has to give you $2,100.00 in advance to pay for the hotel.
But read the lease, just in case it has a special paragraph entitled "In Case We Have to Renovate."
