Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

Approved to buy a house but had to break lease on apartment

We were recently living in an apartment and then were approved to buy a house. We notified the apartment office of this, and they told us that because we were going to break our lease 3 months early, we would have to pay them 2 grand! I was then told that if you get approved to buy a house the apartment people HAVE to let you out of your lease. Can someone provide me with more information about this please! We are young and recently newlyweds and I really don't want our credit ruined for us being able to buy a house!

Desparately in need of help!

You are breaking the lease - it does not matter the reason. When you break a lease, what you are responsible for is a re-letting fee if the lease calls for one (many of them do) and rent up until the landlord re-lets the property. The property code requires the landord to make an effort to re-let the property so they cannot accelerate the rent, they can only charge you each month rent comes due when they have not been able to re-let the apartment.
