Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

Breaking Apartment Lease Due To Changing Jobs

Hello, Might want to correct the spelling of ''insure'' in your second bullet item. Believe it should be ''ensure''... Anyway, my lease is up for renewal; the complex wants 60-days notice; can renew for 10 or 12 months; month-2-month ups my rent $250/mo. I've been looking for another job outside Austin. If (or when), I'm successful and need to move; will a letter from the new employer be sufficient to show the apt. manager to get out of the lease? New position will be with a different employer. My lease doesn't have any language addressing having to move due to work. Thank you for your anticipated helpful reply.

Re: Breaking Apartment Lease Due To Changing Jobs

If you sign a year's lease, you will be responsible for a year's lease unless the lease itself provides for the possibility of termination due to job change. I have yet to see a lease with such a provision. The law does not require a landlord to let a tenant out of a lease just because they change jobs. So, unless the leases has such a provision, you will not be able to get out of the lease.
