Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas
Breaking of a lease
I am currently renting an apartment and the owners will not come and fix any of the maintenance issues I am having with the place. Can I legally break the lease since they are negligent with maintenance issues and how would I go about doing that?

Re: Breaking of a lease
You need to notify them in writing of the issues, and send the notice by certified mail, RRR. If after reasonable notice and reasonable time to repair, the landlord still ignores it, you can justify breaking the lease, for some repairs, not all. You need to carefully review the landlord/tenant portion of the Texas Attorney General website for guidance on what types of repairs are involved, as well as what the notice and waiting times are required.
