Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

breaking lease

I was once told that if you were in a lease with an apartment complex and you had decided to purchase a home you may be let out of your lease. It was a way to get more texans to buy homes. I have found out that I am pregnant and my move out date is my due date. Another thing that concerns me is there are steep stairs in my townhome and I run the risk of falling. Please advise.

Re: breaking lease

There is no legal requirement for a landlord to allow a tenant to break a lease as you describe. Any right of termination will be set forth in the lease. With regard to the stairs issue, you might talk to the landlord and request to change to an apartment on the ground floor.

Re: breaking lease

Sorry, unless it is in your lease, you can't arbitrarily break it. Explain your situation to your landlord and maybe he or she will work with you.
