Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas
Building is Wired Wrong; I want out of my lease
Part of my electricity was shut off a few weeks ago, for a period of two
weeks. My landlord first pretended that he didn't know the problem,
then, when asked again, non-chalantly said that it was on my neighbor's
meter. My neighbor moved out and had her power shut off. It took two
weeks before the power for my lights came back on. This concerns me
in two ways: 1) Whose electricity am I paying for? 2) When will my
electricity be turned off again? I would like to get out of my lease while
regaining my security deposit, but I'm not sure of my legal rights here,
especially since the power has been turned back on. What can I do?

Re: Building is Wired Wrong; I want out of my lease
How are you being billed for your electricity? If you are getting a bill from your landlord and the events as you described happened, you have a cause of action and may also be able to get out of your lease. If the electricity is being billed from the electric co. directly to you - different problem. It needs to be straitened out with the electric company.
