Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

We are being charged $600 by our former landlord, who claims she could not show the property while we lived there because the office was dirty. She claims half a month's rent was lost because she could not show the property and rent it prior to us leaving at the end of our lease. She was given a 30 day notice, and we were on a month to month lease. We never refused to let her show the property. We are in Texas. We don't feel we owe this money and now we can't get another rental property with her saying we owe her money. What can we do?

You can't get another rental property because she says you owe money? You need to look more places.

Because of all the foreclosures, the rental market is good right now. Find a landlord who has some imagination. Don't let this person blackmail you.
