Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas
CoSigners off a lease
Is there any way to ''sign'' a cosigner off an apartment lease? My
parents signed for me when I got the lease, and now do not want
to have anything to do with my debts. I will be filing for bankruptcy
before the lease is up, and want to break lease without my parents
credit being hurt. Is there any way I can do this?

Re: CoSigners off a lease
Landlord must consent. If it comes up for renewal, parents can send letter to landlord saying that they are not responsible for the lease beyond the original term. But they are on the hook for the lease during the term they signed for unless the landlord agrees to let them off. If you file bankruptcy during that time, landlord will look to your parents.
