Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas
Electric bill is over $300
I live in a one bedroom apartment
and my electric is over $300. My
neighbors are paying $76 to $100.
The electric company says it is the
complex's fault and the complex
says they can do nothing. What
recourse do I have?

Re: Electric bill is over $300
Oddly enough, my adult daughter had a similar problem. There is a specific procedure to follow which is outlined on the Texas Attorney General website under landlord/tenant. She notified them by CMRRR, and when they did not respond, she first had TXU come out and do an inspection. Following their advice, she contacted a private electrician. Finally the faulty wiring was repaired, and the complex reimbursed her the service fees.
Besides that anecdotal information, you need to read the terms of your lease for further options.
