Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas
Evicted
I was at work yesterday and my landlord had the locks changed on my aartment. I was given no documentation or date of eviction notice. Is that legal? Do they have a right to hold my belongings hostage?

Re: Evicted
Unless you have been to court on an eviction suit where the judge granted the eviction and 5 days have passed, the landlord has no right to lock you out. He may change the locks but he must leave a notice telling you where you can get a key 24/7 and cannot require payment of rent as a condition to get the key. You need to go to the justice of the peace and file a writ of re-entry. The court should have the forms. You should be able to obtain an order for them to let you back in. You still have a lawsuit for unlawful lockout.
