Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

Being forced out of rented room in house without notice.

My wife and I moved to Texas into a relatives home using 1.3 spare bedrooms. The verbal agreement was for a period of one year to enable us time to purchase land and build a home. We did purchase the land and have cleared that portion for a homesite. After 5 months, the relative suddenly says we must leave next week without 30 days notice. The persons reason is stress, I think otherwise. Moving will cost us a lot. We payed the entire 1 year rent of 325/month in adavance plus 1/2 food/utilities for 5 months. The T-1 line we had installed with their permission will cost $1250 in early disconnection fees plus I lose the install fee of $1250. I've only used the T-1 1.5 months and it took months to get installed.

Without getting into the emotional relative arguments stuff, are they liable for these expenses and returning the unused rental fees and such? I also think since they didn't give 30 days notice that they should be liable for the moving expenses to get into--name removed--apartment.

Thanks in advance.

If what you say is true, and you can prove payment, the answer is possibly. For the sake of family harmony, try and work it out like mature adults. Otherwise, your best bet is to move asap and go to small claims court.
