Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas
My landlord is behind $2,000 on his mortgage and doesn't want to renew our lease. He says if we give him the $2,000 he'll renew the lease and we don't have to pay rent for two months. we're always on time with the rent by the way. What do we do?

Give him the $2000, but get the agreement in writing. Something like this:
"It is agreed that Lessees are giving Landlord $2000.00 on March 26, 2011, in exchange for which Landlord will not charge Lessees any rent for April or May 2011. The next rent payment is due on June 1, 2011."
