Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

Landlord obligations

Does a landlord have to provide the

opportunity for the tenant to have

heat? We have natural gas in our

house, and we pay our gas bill. We

had a gas leak 3 weeks ago and our

landlord still has not repaired the

gas. Therefore, we have no heat, no

hot water, and no stove. Is this

legal?

Re: Landlord obligations

Yes. Call City Code Enforcement. Also send a letter requesting the repair be made. Send it certified mail, return receipt requested. Seven days is considered to be a reasonable time for repairs to be made. If it is not made within that time, you can terminate the lease or sue the landlord for damages.
