lease on apartment

i have never been late with my rent..until this month i got in a finacial bind..my rent will be 30 days late..my question is can the apartment complex give me an eviction notice? or can i still pay the rent plus late fees at the end of that month without having an eviction process started..i have notify the manager but they say i only have till the 21st of the month..can they kick me out for being late?
