Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

My lease was up on Aug. 31st. I signed a new lease. The landlord made a mistake with the date that the new lease would start. They put the new lease for Sept 30th. This left a month gap between leases. I paid my rent amount of the old lease, since the new lease had not taken effect according to the date they wrote. Do I have to pay the new lease amount or the old?

If the old lease provided for a holdover rent of the rent you paid, then you correctly paid under the old lease. At this point, I recommend you begin making payments under the new lease.

If there is a probem (such as a higher rent under the holdover provision in the lease, you can approach the landloard ask him or her to correct the mistake.
