Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

lease

My daughter leased an apartment for 8 months. This is her 4th month. Two people were killed in the unit, i believe that was drug related. She is 19 and will not come out of her apartment at night due to the shooting. The manager even told her not to speak with anyone outside walking around because they were looking for people doing drugs. She is so afraid she wants to move home. They told her she would have to pay $1000 to get out. What can We do as parents to help her get out of this lease? Thank you

Re: lease

Legally, she will have to establish that the apartment complex is not fit for its intended purpose. The process is contained in the Texas Property Code. You could attempt to negotiate a release, but if you do, make sure it is in writing.

NOT legally, but as the mother of 5 kids, I would drive over there, get my child out and into a safe place, and worry about the rest of it afterwards.
