Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

My lease was up in July 2013, I received a notice with the information of the amount of my rent if i were to resign. I gave the paper back and spoke with them stating I did want to resign. They DID NOT give me another/new lease to sign. Since then I am interested in moving. Am I obligated to a lease if I DID NOT resign? Again the only lease I signed has actually expired on July 1st 2013.

They offered you the opportunity to sign a new lease and you refused. You are bound by the lease you did sign which probably has a provision for increasing the monthly rent for holdovers. You are not obligated to sign a new lease but you are obligated to charge the rent for holdovers as set forth in your original lease. If you wish to vacate, make sure you give written notice in advance the number of days it says in your original lease. Most leases call for 30 days written notice but many leases are now requiring 60 days advance notice.
