Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas
no lease, no repairs
I have signed no lease. The real estate man told me he would make repairs the day after move in, it's been over month and half, and i have left messages. The stove in the house, shocks me when i try to cook, no bathtubs work, just 1 shower, the tiolet wobbles when i sit on it, and i called and left messages, no return call. The roof leaks in one of the dens, and it rained, the ceiling fan was spinning because of the rain coming in the roof. I with held this months rent, thinking he would call me, he did, but only to collect the rent. I do not know what to do..I am moving out, but, how do i go about getting out of this crappy house, actually it's not, just nothing works, and when i cook, i get shocked..What can i do to get out of here without being held liable for rent. I cannot keep living here with my child and not cook..I am upset and scared..but, we are moving. What actions do i need to take without paying anymore money for a house i could get electricuted from...Answers needed ASAP..The real estate man rented the house to us for a friend that lives in California. No lease has been signed by anyone.

If you have signed no lease, its a month to month lease. You can give thirty days notice and move. It is not permissible in Texas to withhold rent for any reason.
