Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

Leaving short-term lease

I am a pediatric reisdent in a city in Texas. I wanted to do a rotation in another city in Texas. I made arrangements for a short-term stay at a dorm. My rotation got cut short, and I had to go back to my city for fear of termination of my contract. When I called the rental office for a prorated refund of my check, they refused to reimburse the entire amount. They deducted almost 200 dollars, instead of just 75 dollars. Please help.

Re: Leaving short-term lease

It doesn't seem right, but other than complaining to the BBB, management company, and anyone else who would listen, to seek a remedy would cost you more in money, time, and effort than the $125 difference. Filing fees for a small claims case ranges from $65 - $100 depending on the county and there is no assurance of winning. Make some noise and maybe someone will throw a little money your way or just chalk it up to experience.
