If someone that lives with you owes you money are you able to keep their belongings if they dont pay you?

If they are renting from you, owe you rent and and move out, you have a landlord's lien on the property they leave behind. Keep in mind that if you do this, they may run to the police and claim you stole the property from them. It is best that you have something to show that you have this right, such as a signed lease agreement.
