Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas
living in house owned by my mother
I've been living in my grandmother's old house that my mother owns. I've lived here for approximately 3 1/2 years. All the utilities are in my name. All improvements in the property I have done. There has never been a lease, rental agreement or anything. My father just told me to make the house my own. My family and I have done so. Problem: My father died 2 years ago and my mother remarried 3 months ago. I recieved a certified letter from my mother and her new husband asking me to move in 30 days. I only have 10 days left and have no idea what to do. This is my home and feel that my mother has been coerced by her new husband to throw me out. I am an only child and have planned to live here the rest of my life. Do I have ANY rights whatsoever. My father didn't have a will I don't think so I'm at a loss as what to do. All extra money has gone into this house for the past 3 1/2 years. I have around 13000$ in reciepts that I have spent on this house. The only thing original left in it is the outside doors, kitch cabs and roof. We've replaced everything bit by bit and paid for it as we go. Please give me advise as where to go from this point. I do not have another place to move and cannot get a loan for a new house

Re: living in house owned by my mother
You need to get a lawyer to file a preemptive lawsuit and injunction -- possibly a trespass to try title. I do not practice real estate law, or probate law, so am not sure of your chances of succeeding, but it should at least slow things down. A consultation with an attorney in those areas of law will be a minimal investment for a wealth of advice. Move fast.
